Younger & Stronger

People are living increasingly longer but, on average for people of both genders, the later years are with significant and increasing years of poor health. Very active seniors’ experience and leading research indicates that does not have to be an accepted norm of modern societies.
Younger and Stronger is a Programme of courses for people who have some experience of physical activity, possibly some years ago, who have a broad understanding of its benefits and wish to recover earlier levels of strength and vigour. And possibly take them further forward to achieve strongly increased vitality, wellbeing, whilst reducing their biological age.

The course leader on Younger & Stronger is Colin Tuckwell. Mari-Anne also leads course on the Programme, which  has three phases, run sequentially.

Explorers – is an initial 12 sessions course lasting six weeks that ensures clients have up-to-date knowledge of health and wellbeing fundamentals covering nutrition, exercising, rest and recovery, physiology, extending healthspans and the various interdependencies of these fundamental elements of wellbeing. The initial sessions will be devoted to formative information and establishing exercise technique and routines. Later sessions are predominantly active with recommended post-session activities to increase the pace of progress. By the end of the course clients will have made noticeable improvements in their own sense of wellbeing and fitness. They will have mastered a wide range of activity techniques important for their continuing progression, and have a good sense of the interests and goals they wish to pursue in continuing to strengthen their health and physiology. They will have increased self-confidence and be capable of a significant level of effective decision-making to secure their life-long wellbeing. They will have made new friendships and shared encouragement and experiences with their course peers.

The twelve Progressers sessions are over six weeks. After signing-up, your personal consultation with a coach will last approximately 25-30 minutes. New Perspectives – is designed for people with a good basic understanding of how to influence their own wellbeing and who now wish to make strong strides in establishing a significantly higher level of fitness, vitality and wellbeing knowledge. It is a twenty session course lasting ten weeks that builds on the initial “Explorers” course or similar levels of knowledge and experience. We tailor the course activities to the goals of the clients participating. A goal all participants will have in common is to significantly build up strength and endurance. Building on the “Explorers” course, the early sessions increase the range and intensity of exercising whilst also sharing new knowledge relating to nutrition, exercise training, resting, recovery and rehabilitation. The second half of the programme is largely devoted to a formal, goals oriented training programme, which our coaches support clients to part design for themselves. During this time clients will be embracing new knowledge and experience of what health and fitness improvements can be achieved throughout life, whatever age they are currently.
Their decision-making capability in influencing their wellbeing will be very significantly increased by the course end. So too their self-confidence and realisation of the scale of improvements they are able to achieve in both their cardiovascular performance and muscular strength over the ten weeks of the course.

The course will encourage clients to participate in additional activities to those of the “live” course, in order to increase the pace of their progress. This can be arranged with us, using our library of recorded resources.
Shared encouragement with cohort friends, the unexpected scale of one another’s achievements and other mutual experiences are likely to make the social contact with course peers a lot of pleasure and enjoyment.

Younger Still – is for people who have completed the New Perspectives course and now wish to experience the extent of their potential in understanding, guiding and improving their own wellbeing and fitness. This is a twenty-six session, formalised training programme over three months tailored to the goals of participating clients. Clients will work with their coach in defining the detail of their own course activity. Clients will learn further about ensuring their own wellbeing at levels of fitness that reflect their personal potential.

Achievements for many clients will be beyond what they would have considered possible during any earlier physical activity. Their “Younger Still” activity will include significant levels of training outside the course sessions. Clients can expect up to a doubling of their cardiovascular capability and up to a 50% improvement in their muscular strength during the course, depending upon their individual goals. Clients may wish to train for specific skills improvements, activities or, if of interest to them, competitive events. At the end of the course clients will have a very high degree of confidence and decision-making capability in maintaining their levels of wellbeing and fitness at elevated levels.

Peer support, encouragement and exchange of experiences continues to be an important element of the Younger & Stronger experience at this level, as in previous courses.
