Musculo - skeletal Courses, including Pre- & Post-Joint Operation Course
Musculo-skeletal atrophy and pain affects around one in six people in the U.K. Its effects lead to nearly a quarter of a million joint replacement operations each year. Contrary to commonly held views, and wholly realistic fears of people newly experiencing these conditions, exercise offers important opportunities of improving the situation for everybody with any level and form of musculo-skeletal condition. For the majority not needing or contemplating surgery, mobilising and strengthening muscularity and joints will reduce pain levels. For those contemplating or awaiting surgery, regular exercise before and after surgery will contribute to better clinical and rehabilitation experiences.
As with all our courses, our musculo-skeletal (msk) services see clients developing knowledge and skills to increasingly influence their health and its on-going improvement. Activities will focus on strengthening pain-giving joints, whilst at the same time progressively building their allround physical activities, strength, stamina, balance, coordination and self-confidence. They are suitable for anybody suffering msk problems, be they heavily restricted in their movements or mildly impacted.
Our individual msk courses, at two levels, are adapted to respond to the needs of individual client groups.
Our course msk – supported improvement is for people not able or confident in taking their full body weight during prolonged periods of activity or movement. The course informs clients about their general wellbeing, msk conditions and how to mitigate their effects, as well as how to improve their all round wellbeing. The course runs for twelve weeks with one session per week. Clients will notice significant improvements both to their musculo-skeletal condition and their all round wellbeing and mood during this time. This is likely to be a motivator for continuing to be more active. Our coaches will have much pleasure in guiding you to the most suitable options for you as an individual, given your interests, physical conditioning and other relevant personal factors, such as mutually supportive friendships.

Our pre- and post-joint operation courses are to support clients during the time they are close to joint surgery and during rehabilitation. The courses are linked to the other musculo-skeletal courses in that clients with surgery in the near future will transition from their msk course to focus specifically on their forthcoming operation and later rehabilitation. The course is also open to non-msk course members wanting to prepare for up-coming joint surgery. The course supports clients during the time they are planning and waiting for surgery and during on-going rehabilitation after the operation, both during and after hospital-associated immediate rehabilitation. The three course elements can be structured around individual clients’ needs.
