Robert Gurtler enjoys energy levels generally
accepted to be the exclusive domain of young
adults half his age and younger. In a single
year he ran 115 long-distance races. He raced
more than 500 miles, or an average of a little
more than 4 miles per race.
Robert was 71
years young when he did this. Since almost all
running races take place on weekends, this
means that Robert often ran 2 or 3 races in a
weekend and sometimes in a single day. This
dynamo of the senior set did this while holding
down a full-time job AND serving as Mayor of
his home town. Even more impressive is the fact
that his work involves more than 100,000 miles
of air travel a year -- exhausting in and of
itself.
